As a young person, I never thought much about wine. And then during one of my contracts with Disney Cruise Lines I signed up for a wine course. This got my interest going and that was the beginning of my journey into wine. At the end of my contract I returned to South Africa and continued my studies on line with WSET and have achieved my WSET Level 3 Wine Certificate. At the same time, I became a Partner in Kream Restaurant at their original site in Brooklyn Pretoria, where I opened their exclusive Wine Shop and was the in house sommelier. At the beginning of 2016 I decided I wanted to start my own business and saw a gap in the market for the supply of fresh produce to Restaurants and Hotels. This was the beginning of Fresh Start Produce. We experienced steady growth until the beginning of 2020 when COVID 19 brought the Hospitality Business to a standstill. I was fortunate in that I saw this coming before we were actually put into Level 5 lockdown and by then had started on Home deliveries to try and keep the business afloat. At this stage I also applied for a Liquor Licence. The Liquor Licence was finally granted which allowed me to include alcohol to our already extensive Home Delivery list of products and subsequently finally back into my passion – WINE!
